An elegant and spacious 18th-century
house in the Cathedral Close that is a rare retreat of peace and tranquility in
Salisbury city centre. The house has fine Georgian features including intricate
plasterwork and a monumental oak staircase; it was also used as a film location
for Sense and Sensibility (1995). Also on show at the house is a virtually
unrivalled collection of Turnball drinking glasses.
Mompesson house has charming walled gardens to explore. The delightful garden
has a pergola and traditionally planted herbaceous borders.
